D-Day is Go & the Darkness is Falling!

The guests are incredible but of course they aren't the only thing to check out at Supanova! Kicking off the whole weekend of fun from 1.00pm Friday is "Directors Day", the chance for aspiring creatives to meet some of the best in their field and a chance for the Supa-keen to check out the show floor.

Go behind the scenes of the Hollywood blockbuster WOLVERINE with Cathy Henkel, the director of SHOW ME THE MAGIC, a new documentary about Australia’s living legend, cinematographer Don McAlpine. WOLVERINE was Don’s 50th film, in an impressive lineup that runs from MRS DOUBTFIRE to PREDATOR. In Cathy’s documentary about Don, we’ll see some of his personal on-set ‘home movies’ for the very first time. Get in early for a sneak peek!

Morgan Jaffit of Defiant Development is working with director Robert Connolly and journalist Tony Maniaty on WARCO - a brand-new console game (still in development!) about war correspondents. This is a First-Person Shooter with a twist: the player shoots film, not people! Set in the fictional country of Benouja, playing as journalist Jesse DeMarco, users must record dramatic images of conflict, save them in-game, and then edit the results into a compelling frontline TV news story before uploading the results to the web. Hear from Morgan Jaffit about how to shoot stories, not the enemy, in this cool and innovative new game.

Yoshihiro Nishimura is a legendary director and maestro of gore special effects for Sushi Typhoon, the genre film subsidiary of Japan’s oldest movie studio, Nikkatsu Corporation. Sushi Typhoon was founded in 2010 with the mandate of creating low-budget horror, science fiction and fantasy films for an international audience. Yoshihiro Nishimura started out creating stunningly effective and creative special effects and makeup effects for films such as Suicide Club, Meatball Machine and The Machine Girl. Their content might be controversial, but Nishimura san’s innovations are inarguably brilliant. For his first feature as director, Tokyo Gore Police, Nishimura co-wrote the screenplay, directed the movie, did the special make-up effects and modeling, and appeared in a cameo!

On D-day, Yoshihiro Nishimura appears with his friend and translator, Marc Walkow, who is co-director of the New York Asian Film Festival and heads Sushi Typhoon's American division. Later on Friday night, following Supanova’s Preview Night festivities, you can attend a special Brisbane International Film Festival screening of Nishimura san’s over-the-top zombie apocalypse gorefest, Helldriver! He will personally introduce the film, which screens at the Tribal at midnight.

Darkness II & Tin Tin & Opening Night

Directors Day attendees will also get a chance to check out two awesome games before the rest of the crowds roll in on Saturday! 2K Games is bringing us The Darkness 2 and Ubisoft will be be showing off their Tie-in to the hugely anticipated Tin Tin Film!

Friday night is Opening Night and its a cavalcade of stars, panels, events and fun. The opening ceremony kicks off with appearances by some of our fantastic guests, followed by a Charity Auction, some exclusive panels and this year a special guest appearance by our wonderful Cosplay host John Robertson, performing his hit stand-up show "Dragon Punch!"

Supanova is really three massive days of fun and we can't wait to see you there!

It began with Eragon...
It ends with Inheritance...

Not so very long ago, Eragon - Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider – was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now, the wait of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders.

Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.

The Rider and his dragon have come farther than anyone dared to imagine.
But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaesia?
And if so, at what cost?

On the 9thof November Inheritance is published and the burning questions asked by fans around the world will finally be answered – all will be revealed.
The final battle begins.

Visionary director Tarsem Singh and the producers of the epic "300" Mark Canton and Gianni Nunnari along with Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) unleash an epic tale of treachery, vengeance and destiny in Immortals, a stylish and spectacular 3-D action adventure. As a power-mad king razes ancient Greece and threatens to destroy mankind, a heroic young villager rises up against him in a thrilling quest as timeless as it is powerful.

Tarsem Singh's previous films "The Cell" and "The Fall" were both visually stunning films with complex, intriguing story-lines. "Immortals" looks to be continuing that trend with a fantastic cast including Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2, The Exendables), Henry Cavill (The New Superman!), Kellan Lutz (The Twilight Saga), John Hurt (the Harry Potter series, Merlin and Alien) with Aussie Supa-Star Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Stephen Dorff (Blade), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans).

This incredible looking film opens on November 24th all around Australia and should be experienced in Eye-popping 3-D!

For your chance to win tickets to an exclusive preview screening of IMMORTALS in your capital city, head to Facebook.com/UniversalPicturesAU to enter.”

If you're still not convinced then check out the Trailer here and let Tarsem Singh's incredible visual style win you over!

Madman National Cosplay Championship GRAND FINAL!

Of course one of the biggest events of this Brisbane Supanova Expo will be the Grand Final of the Madman National Cosplay Championship!

Its time to meet the 5 state finalists and 3 wildcard entrants for 2011

Brisbane - Melanie

I’m really looking forward to seeing the amazing costumes the finals brings out this year! The past years’ have been phenomenal, and I’m actually kind of nervous to be part of something that brings out so many awe-inspiring creations.

Melbourne - Giorgia

More than anything, I’m looking forward to meeting other cosplayers and forging new friendships in the spirit of competition and, above all, fun!

Sydney - Wakaleo

I’m really looking forward to see what the other competitors are doing for the Finals, I know everyone is going to look amazing, and I can’t wait to see it! I want to do my very best in the Finals, as I am doing my dream cosplay, Judge Gabranth!

Perth - Risachantag & Rallamajoop

While making the costume is always going to be the part that takes 90% of the time and effort, the longer we’ve been in cosplay, the more we’ve come to love the performance side of the show too. We never thought we’d make it to the finals, but since we did we’ll do our best to give you all the best show we can.

Adelaide - Miss Olli

I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere over in Brisbane I also heard it’ll be warm weather compared to avcon which is on the middle of winter, I’m really excited for the warmer sunny weather!

Wildcard - Endliss Blaze

Despite our relatively short history in the cosplay world with only a few years of experience, we decided to give the MNCC a shot this year after being greatly inspired by the magnificence of last year’s finalists.

Wildcard - Twinklee & Velithya*

Both were finalists in the 2010 finals and Min has also competed and qualified for all three of our final events! A veteran team!
*Due to personal circumstances, Twinklee and Velithya have decided to no longer compete in the finals.

Wildcard - Desert Rose

I’m looking forward to seeing everyones costumes. I hope I can put on a beautiful and memorable performance.
